Frederick Malkin (1800 – May 22, 1830) was born in Hackney, London, around 1800 or 1801, as the second son of the miscellaneous writer and headmaster Benjamin Heath Malkin
and his wife. He received his early education at Bury St Edmunds School in Suffolk, where his father served as headmaster from 1809 to 1828. Following his school years,
Frederick was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge, on June 26, 1818, at the age of eighteen, and matriculated in October 1819. He became a scholar of the college in 1821
and achieved high academic distinction by graduating as Senior Classic and receiving the Chancellor's Medal before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1824. He
subsequently secured a fellowship at Trinity College in 1825, proceeded to take his Master of Arts degree in 1827, and was additionally a member of the elite intellectual
society the Cambridge Apostles.
As a scholar and author, Frederick Malkin contributed to historical literature, most notably writing the History of Greece, which was published in 1830 by the Society for
the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. In 1830, he was appointed as a professor of history, ancient and modern, in the University of London. His life was cut short when he died
on May 22, 1830, at the age of twenty-eight. Following his death, a memorial inscription was placed in the cathedral at Bury St Edmunds, and he was buried at St. Edmundsbury
Cathedral in Suffolk. While standard biographical references document his academic and family background, specific historical records do not establish explicit details
concerning personal relationships of an LGBTQ nature.
